Protecting the health and well-being of all Ontarians is our government’s top priority, especially during the COVID-19 outbreak. On March 30th, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health recommended that individuals over 70 years of age to self-isolate. We need to do everything we can to protect our seniors and most vulnerable citizens. That is why Ontario is launching the new Ontario Community Support Program to assist low-income seniors and people with disabilities in need.

By partnering with the Ontario Community Support Association (OSCA), our government is helping to provide delivery of meals, medicines and other essential items to those in need during COVID-19.

The OSCA is an experienced not-for-profit organization comprised of community organizations serving Ontarians across the province. By working through their existing network, we can help ensure that seniors, people with disabilities and those with underlying medical conditions receive the supports they need as quickly as possible.

The program will expand existing Meals on Wheels capacity to reach even more people in need. To support this expansion, the government is partnering with SPARK Ontario (www.sparkontario.ca) to encourage volunteers to assist Meals on Wheels and other programs in need of support. The program will also develop the capacity of community organizations and others to help deliver medication and other essentials.

Seniors, persons with disabilities and people with underlying medical conditions, their families or caregivers can access delivery services by visiting www.ontariocommunitysupport.ca.

Those without internet access, or who require service in a language other than English or French, can contact 211 at any time by dialing 211, 1-877-330-3213 (toll free) or 1-888-340-1001 for TTY service.

We encourage you to get the word out about these services to your communities and community partners.

From April 27 to May 29 2020, the Department of Environmental Service will proceed to its unidirectional flushing operation of the water supply network. This operation will be performed from Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during this period.

The unidirectional flushing is intended to dislodge deposits in the water mains and preserve high water quality. To do this, the water must be forced in one direction and subsequently be evacuated through fire hydrants.

During this operation, a temporary drop of pressure and/or a reddish colouring of the water may occur. Before any use of water, we recommend that you verify if the water is coloured. If the water is coloured, leave the cold water taps running until the water returns to its usual colour. Additionally, we recommend that you to do your laundry in the evening or the weekend during this period. Note that this discolouration will have no harmful effect on your health.

We thank you for your cooperation and for more information, please do not hesitate to contact us at 613-632-0106, extension 2020.

As we all strive to navigate and adapt to the challenges we face during the pandemic, the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation is offering businesses and communities ways in which we can further support local buying. One of our projects is this one-stop directory that will form part of a larger and ongoing Shop Local initiative.

Here at Encourage Local, we are committed to the promotion and encouragment of local shopping. The objective of this initiative is to offer a vast variety of local products and services while promoting the sustainability of businesses in all regions of Prescott and Russell and Southern Ontario. Let us remember that every dollar invested in our communities counts and helps support our local products and our expertise, which further stimulates our economy.

Let's buy local!

Exceptionally, invoices for water, sewage and waste collection will be mailed during the week of April 20 to 24 (and not this week) and will be payable by May 31.
