Building and maintaining an ice rink is an art. The Town of Hawkesbury is doing everything possible to open the outdoor rinks by the end of December if Mother Nature allows it, but several factors can delay the opening. A set of factors must then be taken into account. This is why the Town is asking for the collaboration of citizens. It is imperative not to use the rinks during the preparation period.
Factors taken into consideration:
- For the ground to be properly frozen, the temperature must drop to -5 ° C or less, day and night, for at least 7 consecutive days.
- To the required temperature must be added a minimum snow cover of 15 cm.
- Subsequently, the cracks in each of the rinks must be filled with snow.
- The clogging should be followed by 2 or 3 watering sessions per day for about 5 consecutive days, all accompanied by a temperature of -5 ° C or less.
Please do not venture on ice rinks when they are closed during warm weather or snowstorms.
Snow and water can damage the ice and hide dangers.
